The Reverend Heather Nysewander
Reverend Heather Nysewander is a lifelong United Methodist and comes from a family of United Methodist ministers on her father’s side. She grew up in Woodstock, Georgia, and grew up attending Roswell United Methodist Church just north of Atlanta. In 2010, she went to college at Georgia Southern University, where in 2014, she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Writing and Linguistics with a minor in history. She worked in various jobs until, in 2018, she answered the call to ministry and began her seminary journey at Candler School of Theology in Decatur, Georgia.
During her time in seminary, she took part in a Contextual Education course where she served as a chaplaincy intern at Lee Arrendale State Prison, Georgia’s largest women’s prison. In 2019, she received her license as a part-time local pastor and served as head pastor at two churches for the remainder of her seminary career. She graduated with her Master of Divinity (MDiv) in 2021. She continued to serve as a part-time local pastor until 2022, when she was licensed as a full-time local pastor and served a two-point charge in the mountains of north Georgia. She moved to Pensacola in 2024 to serve as the Director of Youth Ministries and was appointed as senior pastor of Gadsden Street United Methodist Church in July of 2026. She is currently working towards full ordination in the Alabama-West Florida Conference as an Elder.
In her spare time, Heather loves reading, creative writing, grabbing “girl dinner” with her friends, being a part of a book club, and diving down every rabbit hole that comes her way. She is naturally curious in just about all areas of life and translates this curiosity into her ministry by creating spaces for open spiritual and theological conversations. On Wednesday afternoons, you can find her working out of a local coffee shop. If you find her out in the wild, feel free to pull up a chair and have a conversation!
Liz Caternang - Administrator
Elizabeth serves as the Church Administrator at Gadsden Street, where she has been a familiar and welcoming face in the congregation for over two decades. Her journey took her from growing up in Nevada to running a film production company in Los Angeles before happily settling in Pensacola. She and her husband, Glenn, were married at Gadsden Street and raised their children within the church family long before she stepped into her current staff role.
Now managing the church office, Liz brings warmth and dedication to keeping daily operations running smoothly and preparing the church for Sunday worship. Whether she is handling administration or greeting visitors, she always has a smile to share.
She is a deep lover of music, and her musical taste spans from Chopin to Nat King Cole and traditional hymns. Outside of work, she loves spending time with Glenn, learning to sew and quilt, praying with her bulldog, Daisy, and taking in God’s beauty at the beach.
